Account Director, AARP

Our Company

Strand Marketing is a boutique digital marketing consultancy that partners with complex, high-value brands to deliver strategic client services and performance-driven media. We combine rigorous program management, technical excellence and a collaborative culture that values care, clarity, curiosity, and accountability.

The Role

We’re hiring an Account Director to be the technical and operational lead for the AARP portfolio. This is a senior, solution-oriented role that sits between day-to-day project delivery (PM level) and senior account leadership (Account Director / Sr. Director). You’ll own the technical roadmap, measurement and escalation layer for AARP programs while partnering closely with one of our founders and other senior client stakeholders to align work with business outcomes.

This role is hands-on and consultative: you’ll translate business priorities into technical direction, run cross-product delivery, maintain tracking and data integrity, and coach internal and client teams to raise technical competence across the account.

What you’ll do

Account, technical & strategic integration

  • Serve as the technical and data lead across the AARP portfolio: define the technical roadmap, data architecture and measurement strategy aligned to business outcomes.
  • Translate business priorities into technical requirements, prioritization frameworks, and delivery plans.
  • Maintain cross-channel visibility (acquisition, media, CRM, product) to identify systemic optimization opportunities.
  • Lead strategic discussions, reframing technical conversations toward business impact and decision clarity.

Program & delivery leadership

  • Own lifecycle delivery of technical and cross-product initiatives, from sizing and requirements to QA and adoption.
  • Coordinate dependencies, vendors, and cross-team execution across PMs, engineering, analytics and external partners.
  • Act as the primary escalation owner for technical risk and delivery blockers; establish QA governance and release validation standards.
  • Create repeatable playbooks for integrations, tagging rollouts and product launches.

Data governance & measurement

  • Define instrumentation standards, data models, and measurement frameworks with analytics and engineering partners.
  • Guide tradeoffs for tagging, CDP/CRM integrations, attribution design and reporting infra.
  • Ensure reliable executive dashboards and rigorous A/B testing frameworks aligned to KPIs.

Tracking integrity & troubleshooting

  • Own tracking health across the portfolio: proactive monitoring of pixels, tags, event instrumentation and data flows.
  • Lead ad hoc troubleshooting for tracking or attribution discrepancies using browser tools, tag managers, SQL and analytics platforms.
  • Document QA and validation processes to prevent regressions across releases.

Client & commercial ownership

  • Represent Strand in technical conversations with AARP stakeholders; present recommendations in business terms and anticipate client needs.
  • Identify technical investments that unlock account growth; support scoping, proposals and commercial negotiations.
  • Shape meeting narratives to ensure alignment on goals, tradeoffs and next steps.

Stakeholder enablement & coaching

  • Coach client teams and internal PMs to improve prioritization, executive communication and technical competency.
  • Strengthen long-term client trust through pragmatic, low-ego partnership and back-channel guidance.

Who you are:

  • 7+ years combining account and program management with technical/data delivery in an agency or client environment.
  • Proven experience leading technical strategy and measurement design (CDP/CRM, analytics, attribution) and translating tradeoffs to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong program management skills: dependency mapping, resourcing, vendor management and delivery accountability.
  • Hands-on familiarity with data tooling and instrumentation (SQL, GTM/tagging, analytics platforms, CDPs/CRMs) and a working understanding of APIs and integrations.
  • Excellent client communication and executive presence — able to present complex technical topics in business terms.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting tracking/instrumentation issues end-to-end.

A Plus:

  • Experience with large nonprofit, government or regulated enterprise clients.
  • Track record of scoping technical pilots that led to measurable business value.
  • Familiarity with digital QA and release processes.
  • Background in lead-gen and customer lifecycle programs.

The right way to operate here

We’re looking for a strategic-technical integrator who is analytically rigorous and hands-on, yet fluent in business language and emotionally intelligent. You’re calm under pressure, low-ego, and take ownership of technical risk and delivery. You coach others, favor repeatable playbooks over tribal knowledge, and connect tactical work to commercial outcomes.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay
  • 401(k) with 4% company match
  • Comprehensive medical, dental & vision
  • WFH Mondays and WFH + Half-Day Fridays year-round
  • Monthly WFH and lifestyle stipend
  • Team events, happy hours and volunteer opportunities
